They work as groundskeepers at a parkand spend their days trying to avoid work and entertain themselves by any means. Other coworkers include an overweight green male called Muscle Man, and a ghost called Hi-Five Ghost. Regular Show largely grew out of creator J. Quintel's life and experiences in college. Both originated as part of a game called "hour films", in which students put words into a hat, pulled out one word at midnight and spent a weekend developing ideas for a film.
Quintel concurrently worked on Camp Lazlo and as creative director on The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack while completing his degree. He was later invited to pitch for Cartoon Network's Cartoonstitutea project to showcase short films created without the interference of network executives and focus testing.
Quintel returned to the characters from his films, put them together with newer characters and created a pilot. The project was eventually scrapped and never premiered on television. He liked the design and developed the character of Rigby to be far less responsible than his companion.Regular Show Ep 05 - Terror Tales Of The Park II Part 01
The show is inspired by some British television series and video games. Episodes are produced using storyboarding and hand-drawn animation, and each episode takes roughly nine months to create. Quintel recruited several independent comic book artists to draw the show's animated elements; their style matched closely with Quintel's ideas for the series. The show's soundtrack comprises original music composed by Mark Mothersbaugh as well as licensed songs.
While preparing for the beginning of the show, Quintel looked for young, independent comic artists to compose the show's storyboard artists; he thought that the style would closely match that of Regular Show. He looked through blogs and convention panels for the "total package", which he said was the ability to write and draw; something that many independent comic book artists possess.
In addition, Quintel attended many open shows at CalArts—an eight-hour festival of student animation. The process of writing a script for Regular Show begins with the staff writers playing "writers games" for inspiration to find an idea that they find enjoyable.
The script is then shown to the network executives, who give notes on what should be added or changed. The plot generally begins with a basic problem that the characters must overcome.Mordecai and Rigby have started their new job, and are pretty pleased with their lodgings.
The only cloud on the horizon is the fact they have no furniture. Luckily, Pops is throwing out a chair he doesn't find comfortable, so the two decide to settle ownership with a game of Rock Paper Scissors. Quintel's 1st student film, "The Naive Man from Lolliland" tells the story of a foreign ambassador who visits the United States only to learn that his customs are unwelcome.
Features an early inspiration for Pops. Quintel's 2nd student film, "2 in the AM PM" tells the story of two slackers, who are left alone to run a convenience store on Halloween night, where candy filled with drugs creates a mini-nightmare.
Features early inspirations for Mordecai and Benson. Mordecai and Rigby must find a way to cover up a hole in the wall they created, and a magical keyboard they name 'The Power' might be just the thing for it. A birthday party is scheduled in the park, and everyone has interesting jobs to do.
That is, everybody but Mordecai and Rigby, who are only trusted with the lame job of setting up the chairs. In order to prove they are not slackers, the duo agree to set them up without being distracted. Mordecai and Rigby need money in order to see their favourite childhood band. They decide to take on extra shifts, but soon start to tire out so they turn to coffee in order to stay awake. Rigby suffers a final humiliation as he loses a fight to Mordecai over a video game.
He turns to 'Death Kwon Do' in order to finally win one over his friend. When Rigby digs up a good-looking plate from the garbage, he and Mordecai decide to use it by eating a piece of chocolate cake on it. As their efforts prove fruitless, they decide the only way forward is to convince the solitary Skips to have a birthday party. The annual park barbecue has arrived, and Benson is so excited he has ordered premium hot dogs.
When things go wrong, Mordecai blames Rigby for always making things worse, despite his claims that he can 'totally fix it. Mordecai and Rigby need to buy a grilled cheese sandwich for Benson, but can't be bothered to wait in line.
Instead, they pretend to be astronauts, which results in them trying to out lie each other. The animated series Regular Show airs on Cartoon Network.
The show, created by J. Quitel, premiered September 6, It has aired for three seasons and received a renewal for a fourth season.
The show centers on two friends in their early twenties, a blue jay named Mordecai and Rigby, a raccoon. The pair work as groundskeepers in a park with a cast of irregular characters, including their boss Benson, who is a living gumball machine, Skips, who is an immortal yeti who skips instead of walks, Muscle Man, who is fat with green skin and High Five Ghost, a ghost with a single hand sticking out the top of his head.
Often, the stories follow Mordecai and Rigby as they try to work as little as possible by playing video games, watching horror movies or eating junk food. However, their attempts to skip out on work can lead them into many surreal situations, including fighting with living holograms of themselves, playing basketball in space and being chased by a deer with the body of a man. Benson often has to threaten to fire them in order to get them to do their jobs, however, many times this doesn't even work.
Another reoccurring theme on the show is Mordecai's attempts to get a date with Margaret, a robin who works as a waitress in a coffee shop near the park. Margaret has a friend, a mole named Eileen, who has a crush on Rigby. For a while neither Margaret or Rigby seemed to want much to with Mordecai or Eileen, respectively, but as the show has progressed they have begun to return the affection. Regular Show has received critical acclaim since its release. Critics praise of the show normally involves the strange characters, unbelievable plot twists and adult themes that occur throughout a show created for a child audience.
